Rivers and lakes of New Ingrea

The landscape of New Ingrea is interspersed with a number of rivers, streams, and lakes. Whilst most are intermittent, there are a number of perennial and near perennial streams that run all the year around. Rivers are used for a number of varying purposes from energy generation to recreational activities, and play a crucial role in the economic welfare of the nation.

The vast majority of New Ingrea's rivers and streams feed into one of the ten principal river systems, although some small coastal creeks and inlets form their own independent catchments. Furthermore, all of the rivers drain into either the Ardentic Ocean or the Aorangean Sea.

Classification

The classification of all streams is the responsibility of the Geographical Names Board. Established in 1976, the board determines the name of a stream using its own naming conventions that reflect local usage and the historical significance of the feature in question. In an additional step, all streams are classified according to the permanence of their flow.
