The geography of New Ingrea encompasses two main islands and a large number of smaller islands, islets and offshore rocks located in the south-east of the Ardentic Ocean, close to the western coast of the Kartumian continent. The majority of the country lies between 39°55' and 44°38' south of the equator and between 159°25' and 166°12' west of the prime meridian, although several outlying islands extend beyond these limits. Nearby nations include the two Ingrean overseas territories of Wāhakea and the Federation of the Moonshine Islands, which together with the sovereign state of Aōrangea form New Ingrea's nearest neighbours.
New Ingrea is a geologically young and topographically varied island country. Its landscape has been shaped by tectonic uplift, volcanism, glaciation, river erosion and continual exposure to strong oceanic weather systems. Mountain ranges and elevated plateaux occupy much of the interior, while the coasts include broad bays, sheltered sounds, steep cliffs, estuaries, beaches and deeply indented fiords. These landforms strongly influence settlement, transport, agriculture and regional identity, with most large towns occupying coastal plains, river valleys or sheltered harbours.

The country's geography is dominated by it's topography and the resulting hydrography is characterised by short, fast-flowing rivers that descend from the central ranges towards the sea. Numerous lakes, wetlands, waterfalls and alpine tarns occur throughout the islands, while the surrounding seas form an equally important part of the national geography. Rivers and lakes provide water, hydroelectric power, habitat and recreation, although their use is constrained by steep terrain, variable rainfall, and the need to preserve sensitive catchments.
New Ingrea's isolation and range of environments have also produced a distinctive biota. Native wildlife includes marine mammals, seabirds, freshwater species and land animals adapted to temperate island conditions. The country's vegetation ranges from wet coastal forest and temperate rainforest to drier woodland, shrubland, grassland, alpine heath and subpolar plant communities. Many native species are endemic or have restricted distributions, making habitat protection and invasive-species control major concerns in environmental policy.
The climate is predominantly cool-temperate and maritime, moderated by the surrounding ocean but strongly influenced by latitude, elevation and prevailing winds. Western and windward districts receive frequent rain and support dense forest, while leeward valleys and coastal plains are generally drier and more suitable for intensive agriculture and settlement. Snow is common in the mountains and may fall at lower elevations during winter, while exposed southern islands experience colder, wetter and windier conditions than the principal population centres.

Landforms
The landforms of New Ingrea reflect the country's position within an active island-arc system. The islands are predominantly mountainous, with comparatively little extensive flat land. Their present form is the result of successive periods of volcanic activity, tectonic uplift, faulting, glaciation and erosion. Although volcanic features remain visible in several regions, much of the modern landscape has been reshaped by rivers, ice and the action of the sea.
The two main islands contain most of the country's major mountain systems, river valleys and settled lowlands. Smaller islands vary considerably in character. Some are the exposed summits of submerged ridges, while others originated as volcanic cones, uplifted coastal platforms or accumulations of marine sediment. Offshore stacks, reefs and skerries are especially numerous along exposed western and southern coasts.
Relief has had a profound effect on New Ingrea's development. Mountain chains historically isolated neighbouring districts, while steep slopes and unstable ground complicated road and railway construction. Settlement consequently concentrated around navigable rivers, natural harbours and the limited areas of level or gently sloping land. Even in the modern era, the country's topography continues to influence transport routes, communications, land use and the boundaries of local communities.
Topography
The topography of New Ingrea is characterised by a central mountainous spine, elevated plateaux, deeply cut river valleys and narrow coastal plains. The highest elevations are found within the principal mountain ranges of the larger islands, where peaks rise above the permanent treeline and retain seasonal snow. Many of these mountains have steep, irregular profiles created by glacial erosion and ongoing slope instability.
The interior ranges form the main watershed of the country. On their windward sides, rivers descend rapidly through forested valleys and gorges, often reaching the sea after relatively short courses. On the leeward side, broader valleys and lower rainfall have allowed the development of more extensive farmland and urban settlement. Several elevated basins and plateaux occur between the main ranges, including areas of grassland, heath and agricultural country.
Glacial landforms are common in the higher and more southerly regions. These include U-shaped valleys, cirques, hanging valleys, moraines and chains of small alpine lakes. In some districts, former glacial valleys have been flooded by the sea to form fiords and sounds. Elsewhere, volcanic calderas and eroded cones have created broad natural amphitheatres, enclosed uplands and distinctive isolated peaks.
Lowland areas are comparatively limited and generally consist of river terraces, alluvial plains, coastal flats and reclaimed wetlands. These areas contain a disproportionate share of the national population and productive farmland. Their scarcity has encouraged dense settlement around suitable harbours and transport corridors, while also creating persistent tension between urban growth, agricultural use and environmental protection.
The coast is highly varied. Sheltered eastern and northern districts contain broad bays, beaches, dunes and estuaries, while the exposed windward coast is more commonly marked by cliffs, rocky headlands, sea caves and offshore stacks. The southern coastline is especially irregular, with islands, channels and drowned valleys producing a complex maritime landscape.
Hydrography
The hydrography of New Ingrea includes the country's rivers, lakes, wetlands, groundwater systems and surrounding marine waters. Because of the mountainous terrain and maritime climate, the islands possess a dense network of watercourses. Most rivers are comparatively short, although they may carry substantial volumes of water following heavy rain or rapid snowmelt.
Rivers generally rise in the central ranges and flow either towards the wetter windward coast or across the more settled leeward plains. Highland rivers tend to be steep, cold and fast-flowing, with numerous rapids, waterfalls and narrow gorges. In lower country, they broaden into braided channels, meandering reaches or tidal estuaries. Floodplains have provided valuable agricultural land but are also vulnerable to periodic inundation.
New Ingrean naming conventions distinguish between several classes of watercourse. Larger channels are ordinarily described as rivers, while smaller perennial waterways may be known as streams, bournes, rivulets, waters or, in upland districts, becks. The term creek is generally reserved for tidal channels and minor estuarine inlets, while intermittently flowing channels are commonly called gullies.
Lakes occur in a variety of settings. The largest occupy tectonic basins, former volcanic depressions or glacially excavated valleys. Smaller tarns are widespread in the mountains, while shallow lagoons occur behind dunes and coastal barriers. Many lakes serve as important freshwater habitats and recreational areas, and several have been incorporated into hydroelectric or water-supply systems.
Wetlands include bogs, fens, mires, marshes and seasonally flooded river flats. Historically, many lowland wetlands were drained for agriculture or urban development, but surviving examples are now widely regarded as important ecological and hydrological assets. They help regulate floods, filter water and provide habitat for native birds, fish and plant species.
The seas surrounding New Ingrea are equally central to its geography. Coastal waters include continental-shelf shallows, deep channels, sheltered sounds and exposed oceanic coasts. Currents, upwelling and differences in water temperature influence fisheries, marine ecosystems and local climate. Numerous communities developed around harbours and estuaries, and maritime transport remains essential for many smaller islands.
