Nature Reserves are the highest form of protected area in New Ingrea. Defined as having flora and fauna in need of protection or study, there are currently xxx nature reserves gazetted across the country. Nature reserves currently occupy x.xx% of the total area of New Ingrea.

Unlike other protected areas, nature reserves do not normally have recreational facilities and are often closed to the general public. The care and maintenance of all nature reserves is the responsibility of the Royal National Parks Service.

Overview

The International Union for Conservation of Nature defines a nature reserve as:

An area of land and/or sea possessing some outstanding or representative ecosystems, geological or physiological features and/or species, available primarily for scientific research and/or environmental monitoring.[1]
