Veness is a village and parish in the county of Deverauxshire, situated 91 1⁄5 miles (146.8 kilometres) east of Swanbrook. The village is located in the Te Piha Rural District, and as of 2010 had a population of 2,060, some 1,555 of whom live in the village.
Economy
The energy sector is by far the largest employer in the parish. Veness is home to the Nuclear Research Laboratory, the headquarters of the Bureau of Nuclear Science and Research, and a key national research facility. The village is also just 5.14 miles (8.27 kilometres) from the Ōruawai Power Station, New Ingrea's only active nuclear power station.
Aside from the nuclear industry, agriculture is the other major employer in the parish.
