The Chief Justice of New Ingrea is head of the Judiciary of New Ingrea. The position was established with the creation of New Ingrea in February 1836. The current Chief Justice, Dame Miranda Heath, was appointed by the Governor-General on the advice of the Judicial Appointments Commission.

Function and powers

As primus inter pares, the Chief Justice is responsible for serving as chair during deliberations of the Judicial Committee of the Executive Council and has the right to be first to voice his opinion. In the event of an evenly divided opinion amongst justices, the opinion of the Chief Justice prevails. As with all other Justices of New Ingrea's courts, appointment is until the mandatory retirement age of seventy-five, and new appointments cannot be made if a candidate has reached the age of seventy.
