The Right Honourable Jennifer Louise Petersen OM KC EC (née Oxenden; born 8 March 1942), is a former National Party politician who briefly served as Leader of the Opposition over the summer and autumn of 1986-87. A prominent solicitor, Petersen went on to serve as a minister in the Corbett government.
In November 1986, she was chosen by the party to replace Yvonne Gates as leader at the height of the Banks Scandal. Her elevation to the leadership failed to save the government, and finding her leadership in opposition to be ineffective, Petersen resigned from Parliament to resume her legal career in May 1987. Aside from her time as Lord High Chancellor between 1992 and 1996, Petersen returned to work in Swanbrook where she was called to the Bar in 1990 and subsequently took silk in 2005. Today, despite being well past the age of retirement, Petersen continues to work as King's Counsel and can still be seen taking on briefs from time to time.
