The Reform Party was a political party formed by dissenting members of the National Party in 1954 who opposed the post-war consensus regarding government intervention in the economy.
History
The post-war economic consensus in New Ingrea revolved around state intervention and public ownership of utilities and other assets. Having come to office in 1952, the National Party had preserved the existing statist policies that had been instituted by the Labour Party from 1946. Their were a number of members of the government that opposed the continuation of these policies, preferring to abolish the welfare state and return New Ingrea to it's pre-war political environment.
Merger
The party merged with the Liberal Party in 1959 to form the Democratic Party.
