Eastern Main Line
The Eastern Main Line is the principal railway line between Kingsbury and Port Frederick. Along with the North Coast Main Line, Central Main Line, Cross Country Main Line, and Southern Main Line, the Eastern Main Line is one of the major trunk lines that form the basis of the New Ingrea railway network. Along the 126 miles 14.4 chains (126.18 miles, 203.07 km) line, the railway also services the towns of Alchester, Langford, Willowdene, Tobinvale, and Ossulstone.
The line was the last of major trunk lines to be built, and traverses some of the most difficult terrain anywhere in New Ingrea. The most difficult section, between Enfield Clifton and Bottom Tank, features a fall of 2,953 feet (900 m) over the course of 27.13 miles (43.66 kilometres) requiring two spiral loops and providing for a grade of 1:48.54. The completion of the line in 1933 was the considered to be greatest engineering feat undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Railways.
