The Minister of State for Finance is a cabinet portfolio responsible for the Ministry of Finance. The post is one of the five original ministerial portfolios established in 1836, when it went under the title of Lord Treasurer of the Realm. The current Finance Minister is Democrat Paul Richardson MHA.

As of the opening of the 56th Parliament, all Senators and MHAs receive a salary of £1,170, plus a £47 per sitting day (not including a per diem amount for expenses). In addition, the Minister of State for Finance receives an additional salary of £918.
