Ribbon of the Alexander Cross |
The Alexander Cross is the highest recognition for valour "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to members of the New Ingrean Defence Force of any rank in any service, and civilians under military command. The award is first in the order of wear in the New Ingrean honours system, and takes precedence over all other orders, decorations, and medals, including the Order of New Ingrea. The award was created in 1972 to replace Victoria Cross, which had been used by New Ingrea and Commonwealth nations for the same purpose since the nineteenth century.
History
Description
The decoration is a cross pattée, 1 1⁄3 inches (34 mm) wide, bearing the crown of New Ingrea, and the inscription FOR THE VALOUROUS. The decoration, suspension bar, and link weigh about 4⁄5 ounce (23 g). The ribbon is crimson, and is 1 1⁄2 inches (38 mm) wide.
The recipient's name, rank, number, and unit are engraved on the back of the suspension bar, and the date of the act for which it was awarded on the back of the cross.
