The Police Medal is a service medal of the honours system of New Ingrea. The medal is awarded for distinguished service by a member of the Royal New Ingrean Police, the eight county constabularies, or special constables in the temporary service of the police during a civil emergency. The medal was introduced on the 30 November 1972, and replaced the imperial-era Queen's Police Medal.
The Medal is awarded by the King, on the nomination of the Minister of State for Home Affairs. The total number of awards must not exceed 49 at any given time. Recipients of the Police Medal are entitled to use the post-nominal letters "PM". So far, 109 medals have been issued, including 16 posthumous awards.
Eligibility
A person may be awarded the Police Medal if they have shown one or more of the following:
- Conspicuous gallantry in saving life and property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals; the risks incurred to be estimated with due regard to the obligations and duties of the officer concerned;
- A specially distinguished record in administrative or detective service;
- Success in organising police or other emergency services, or in maintaining their organisation under special difficulties;
- Special services in dealing with serious or widespread outbreaks of public disorder, or natural disasters;
- Valuable political and secret services;
- Special services to Royalty and foreign Heads of State; or
- Prolonged and distinguished service.
Description
- The Police Medal is a silver medal, measuring 1 1⁄2 inches (38 mm) in diameter. It is ensigned with the Crown of New Ingrea.
- The obverse has the effigy of Geoffrey VII within the royal style of GALFRIDUS VII DEI GRATIA NOVA INGERIA REX ECCLESIAE DEFENSORE
- The reverse of the medal is inscribed with the words FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE. The inscription is encircled by a laurel wreath.
- The ribbon features a blue and white striped pattern.
