Ribbon of the Civil Defence Medal

The Civil Defence Medal is a service medal of the honours system of New Ingrea. The medal is awarded for distinguished service by regular and volunteer members of the eight Civil defence services. The medal was introduced on the 30 November 1972.

The Medal is awarded by the King, on the nomination of the Minister of State for Home Affairs. The total number of awards must not exceed 49 at any given time. Recipients of the Civil Defence Medal are entitled to use the post-nominal letters "CDM". So far, 269 medals have been issued, just one if which has been made posthumously.

Eligibility

A person may be awarded the Civil Defence Medal if they have shown one or more of the following:

  1. Conspicuous gallantry in saving life and property during a natural disaster; the risks incurred to be estimated with due regard to the obligations and duties of the officer concerned;
  2. A specially distinguished record in administrative service;
  3. Success in organising civil defence or other emergency services, or in maintaining their organisation under special difficulties;
  4. Special services in dealing with serious natural disasters;
  5. Prolonged and distinguished service.

Description

  • The Civil Defence Medal is a silver medal, measuring 1 12 inches (38 mm) in diameter. It is ensigned with the Crown of New Ingrea.
  • The obverse has the effigy of Geoffrey VII within the royal style of GALFRIDUS VII DEI GRATIA NOVA INGERIA REX ECCLESIAE DEFENSORE
  • The reverse of the medal is inscribed with the words FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE. The inscription is encircled by a laurel wreath.
  • The ribbon features a orange and white striped pattern.
