The order of precedence is the sequential hierarchy used by the government and other organisations to determine the nominal importance of people in the political and social establishment of the country. The position of a person in the order of precedence is generally an indication of functional importance, and covers a variety of roles and responsibilities. The order of preference has many uses, both critical and trivial. For instance, it may dictate the order of evacuation in the event of war, or where dignitaries are seated at formal dinners.
